The prefecture of Pieria belongs to Macedonia. It is located between Thessaloniki and Larissa, with which it shares the highest mountain in Greece, Olympus. It combines the high mountains with the beaches, while on its borders is the ancient Dion.
The ancient Greeks also considered the area the seat of the Muses. In Pieria there are nice resorts for holidays, mainly summer.Neoi Poroi, Platamonas, Panteleimonas, Skotina, Leptokarya, Litochoro (Plaka Litochoro), Katerini (Olympic Coast) are the series of beaches that belong to Pieria. Turning from the national road at the height of the castle to the beach, you reach the beach of Neos Panteleimon.
For the uninitiated, there are many campsites in the area. Having spent some summers in the area, especially in the campsites, I can say that the combination of mountain, sea, green and the castle is something unique. On one side is Olympus with its tall, steep peaks, green and sometimes cloudy.
On the other hand the Aegean with open and clear sea, while with good weather Halkidiki can be seen. The trees that reach all the way to the sea are also added to the scene, mainly poplars and plane trees, while looking to the right one sees the well-preserved Venetian castle of Platamonas. The beach is sandy, while where the wave breaks there is pebbles. The waters are relatively deep and clear.
